Fresh music from Anjimile just dropped.
This brand-new piece, called “Auld Lang Syne II”, was crafted alongside Brad Cook, and it’s the first song Anjimile has put out since The King in 2023. If your curiosity’s all fired up, you can give it a listen below.
Interestingly, Anjimile started writing this tune as a special gift for their best friend’s wedding, but as the song came together, the feelings inside started to shift. “‘Auld Lang Syne II’ was originally intended as something of a wedding present for my best friend, who got married a few years back,” Anjimile shared. But the song, according to their own words, grew into “a musing on the bittersweet nature of the passage of time—not just for my friend and her husband, but for me and my family and my close relationships.” So, instead of just a wedding song, it became a song for everyone close.
Maybe people don’t notice how fast everything changes until a song points it out.
By the way, if you want more backstory, you can always revisit that interview about Anjimile’s “uphill climb” and how he’s now making indie folk that feels almost magical from the mountaintops. Sometimes I wonder what kind of snacks musicians eat when recording, like, are they more into potato chips or trail mix?
