Avery Tucker of Girlpool Announces Debut Solo Album & New Song Video

Avery Tucker is stepping out solo, announcing his first album called Paw, which is dropping on October 10.

The single “Like I’m Young” just got released, and there’s a music video where Tucker is playing the song in a plain room with only a dog for company, directed by Nick Vernet. Tucker said, “‘Like I’m Young’ is probably one of the most emotionally raw songs I’ve ever written.” He also shared, “There are lines in the song I remember writing and thinking ‘I won’t keep this in.’ I decided to take this song to the edge of myself at the time, and whenever I play the song live I walk alongside that cliff within me and feel the height.” Sometimes, songs just have that way of digging deep, right?

Other tracks from Paw have already started popping up, like “Big Drops,” and the album itself has 11 songs, all co-produced with Alaska Reid. They worked on the album between Montana and California, which sounds like a pretty wild road trip. Katie Gavin from Muna sings on “Angel,” and Aaron Maine from Porches helps out on “Baby Broke” (he sings and produces), while A. G. Cook steps in to produce “My Life Isn’t Leaving You.”

Fans think it’s cool when artists work with their friends, even if it’s a little unexpected.

After Girlpool split up in 2022—just months after their last album Forgiveness—things changed fast. Harmony Tividad went solo too, dropping her album Gossip last year.

Oh, and if you remember Girlpool’s first album Before the World Was Big, it landed at No. 119 in “The 200 Best Albums of the 2010s.” Sometimes lists just make music feel official, don’t they?
