BeatKing, Houston Club Music Hero, Dies at 39

Houston rapper and producer BeatKing, known for his unique blend of hip-hop and club beats, has passed away.

His manager Tasha Felder shared the news on Instagram, expressing that BeatKing had been a vital part of the club scene for over ten years. “BeatKing has been the best part of the club for over a decade,” she wrote. “He has produced and worked with many artists, that his sound will forever live. He loved his daughters @clubgodparenting, his music and his fans. We will love him forever.” The cause of death is still unknown; he was 39.

Justin Riley, born in 1984, started playing drums as a kid while his mom played piano at church. In 2010, he made waves in Houston’s underground scene with his debut album Kings of the Club, which featured hits like “Crush” and “Hammer” that even charted on Billboard.

Over 14 years, BeatKing released lots of music and became a beloved figure in Southern clubs. He collaborated with artists like 2 Chainz, T-Pain, Bun B, Slim Thug, and Gangsta Boo. His song “Then Leave” went viral on TikTok in 2020.

Fans think it’s amazing how he could connect so well through both music and humor.

BeatKing also stood out for wearing funny slogan T-shirts he designed himself with messages like “I Unfollow Back” or “Gum Is Not Toothpaste.” Just last month, he released what would be his final album titled Never Leave Houston on a Sunday.

We’ll miss you forever.
