Blur’s Dave Rowntree Fails UK Parliament Bid

Dave Rowntree, the drummer from Blur, didn’t manage to secure a seat in the UK parliament.

Running for Labour in Mid Sussex, he faced a tough battle against the Conservatives but ultimately lost to the Liberal Democrats. The Lib Dems snagged the seat with 39% of votes, while Rowntree got about 17%. Across the country, Labour celebrated its first big win since 2010.

Back in 2017, Rowntree won his first local election and joined Norwich County Council. He stepped down in 2021 due to pandemic-related responsibilities. When he announced his bid for national office, he was hopeful and said it was a great chance for residents to elect a Labour MP after years of Conservative rule. He believed both Tories and Lib Dems were out of fresh ideas.

I think it’s interesting how musicians often dive into politics with such passion.

Recently, Rowntree also reunited with Blur for new projects like “The Ballad of Darren” and an upcoming live album and film from Wembley Stadium. Plus, he dropped his solo album “Radio Songs” last year.
