Bob Dylan Announces New Art Book Point Blank

Bob Dylan’s newest art book, Point Blank (Quick Studies), will arrive later this year with a bunch of his drawings from 2021 and 2022, plus some short stories written by Eddie Gorodetsky, Jackie Hamilton, and Lucy Sante.

Some of these drawings were actually made to help him finish paintings that are hanging in London’s Halcyon Gallery until July 6, and the book will be published by Simon & Schuster on November 18. Sean Manning from Simon & Schuster said, “This book showcases Bob Dylan’s mastery of telling stories, creating moods and provoking feelings. The images are deeply evocative, at once innocent and world-weary, joyous and forlorn, humorous and sensual, enigmatic and familiar. Dylan’s ability to find beauty and mystery in the seemingly mundane is one of his great gifts—and the gift he’s continually given to the public over the years, including now with Point Blank.” Sometimes, it’s wild how Bob can make even regular stuff seem magical.

Fans sometimes wonder how he keeps coming up with new ideas.

Back in 2016, Bob Dylan got the Nobel Prize in Literature, which was a pretty big deal. Then, in 2022, his book The Philosophy of Modern Song became a bestseller, though people got upset when they found out the “signed” copies were actually just printed signatures. On the same day as the art book release, Simon & Schuster will also drop an audiobook version of Chronicles: Volume One from 2004, and Sean Penn will be reading it, which is kind of unexpected. Earlier this month, Bob even did the voiceover for MGK’s new album trailer, Lost Americana.

If you feel like going back in time, you can check out the Sunday Review for Desire or look up “Murder Most Foul,” which made it to number 8 on the “100 Best Songs of the 2020s So Far” list. Sometimes, people just never stop making cool stuff, huh?
