Bruce Springsteen just put out a song that was supposed to be on a soundtrack for Faithless, a movie that never even got made.
After his Devils & Dust tour ended in 2005, he spent a lot of time recording music for this project, but the whole thing ended up sitting on a shelf for years, gathering dust, until now, when it’s finally coming out as part of his new set called Tracks II: The Lost Albums, which drops June 27. The title song from Faithless is already out, and you can listen to it below.
“This was a really unusual collection of songs,” said Springsteen. “You could recognize details and maybe a character or two. But for the most part, I just wrote atmospheric music that I thought would fit.” There are 11 tracks on the album, and four of them don’t even have words—just music. Most of the time, it’s Bruce by himself, singing and playing, but he also got help from Ron Aniello, who produced the album, and some E Street Band friends like Soozie Tyrell, Lisa Lowell, Curtis King Jr., Michelle Moore, and Ada Dyer. Patti Scialfa, Evan, and Sam Springsteen also joined in.
Fans always wonder what other hidden songs might be out there, waiting to be found.
It’s kind of wild how music can just disappear for years and then pop up again, like finding a toy you lost ages ago.
