Caroline Shaw is set to release the score for a new documentary about Leonardo da Vinci on October 25.
Shaw worked with John Patitucci and her favorite groups—Attacca Quartet, Sō Percussion, and Roomful of Teeth—to record the music. David McMahon mentioned that Caroline’s music feels like it speaks directly to Leonardo’s curious spirit, making his life story even more fascinating. He said her compositions are thrilling and full of wonder.
The two-part documentary by Ken Burns, Sarah Burns, and David McMahon will air on PBS on November 18 and 19. Ken Burns stated that while no one person can explain everything about our world, Leonardo’s unique talents help us understand nature better and appreciate what it means to be human.
I think it’s amazing how music can bring history to life.
Caroline Shaw’s new album follows her recent work with Sō Percussion called Rectangles and Circumstance. She also released two songs with Danni Lee Parpan for their band Ringdown: “Two-Step” and “Ghost.”
