Courtney Barnett Releases Video for New Song Stay in Your Lane

Courtney Barnett just dropped something brand new after a pretty long break.

This fresh track, “Stay in Your Lane”, landed with a music video directed by Alex Ross Perry, and it’s all about letting out those feelings you’ve been holding in, instead of keeping them bottled up. While recording in Los Angeles, she teamed up with Stella Mozgawa on drums, Zach Dawes playing bass, and John Congleton producing the whole thing. Lately, Barnett has been popping up at smaller gigs, quietly testing out her new songs before she brings them to bigger crowds. Soon, she’ll sing “Stay in Your Lane” live on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon on October 22.

Fans always get excited when artists try out new music in tiny venues—it’s like discovering a secret.

Even though End of the Day came out in 2023, that one was mostly instrumentals for her Anonymous Club documentary, so her last real studio album was Things Take Time, Take Time back in 2021. Now, everyone’s waiting for her fifth studio album, which is coming up next.

Sometimes, people wonder if musicians ever get tired of playing their old songs over and over, but maybe that’s why they like to experiment with new stuff now and then.
