Depeche Mode M Movie Coming to Theaters

Fernando Frias has a brand new movie coming to theaters, and it’s all about Depeche Mode and how Mexico sees death.

The film, Depeche Mode: M, mixes scenes from the band’s 2023 album Memento Mori and their concerts at Foro Sol in Mexico City, using them to show how music and death are connected in Mexican culture. There will even be Imax showings starting October 28, which sounds pretty epic. Dave Gahan shared, “At its core, our new film, M, is about the deep connection between music, culture, and people—and Fernando Frías, who directed and conceived the film, did a beautiful job telling that story through the lens of Mexican culture and our shows in Mexico City.”

You might remember Frias from his movie I’m No Longer Here that won big at the Ariel Academy Awards in Mexico and almost made it to the Oscars, and his latest was I Don’t Expect Anyone to Believe Me. Depeche Mode: M already showed up at the Tribeca Festival this year, so it’s not totally brand new, but this is the first time everyone can see it in cinemas.

Sometimes, fans just want to see their favorite band on a giant screen with booming speakers.

It’s kind of funny how a movie about a band can also teach you about a country’s ideas on life and death. Maybe someone will accidentally spill popcorn during a super serious scene, because that always happens at the movies.
