DJ Randall, a key figure in the UK drum’n’bass scene, has passed away at the age of 54.
Growing up in east London, Randall was a major part of the UK dance music world starting from the late ’80s and early ’90s. He played a big role in moving acid house towards breakbeat, hardcore, and jungle at warehouse parties and on pirate radio. His mixtapes and occasional singles were essential to that time. Sets at places like London’s Blue Note helped shape underground dance music in the ’90s. In 1996, he started his own label called Mac2 Recordings with Cool Hand Flex and kept performing at big festivals until he died.
Goldie’s label Metalheadz shared on social media: “Everyone at Metalheadz is absolutely devastated to learn of the passing of one of our own. A uniquely loveable character with a heart of gold, we will miss you very much Randall .” Tributes also came from Nia Archives, Paul Woolford, and DJ Zinc.
Randall’s influence was undeniable as he helped shape a whole generation’s taste in music.
The community will deeply feel his absence as they remember his contributions to dance music history.
