Drake Sues Universal Music, Alleges Kendrick Lamar’s Song Defamatory

Drake has launched another legal move against Universal Music Group, claiming they should’ve stopped Kendrick Lamar’s hit “Not Like Us” from being released because it hurts his image.

According to Drake’s lawyers, the song unfairly accuses him of terrible things like being a sex offender and doing other illegal acts. This new complaint in Texas also says UMG paid iHeartRadio for extra promotion. Before this, Drake filed something similar in New York, saying UMG and Spotify used bots and secret deals to make the song more popular. These aren’t lawsuits yet; they’re just steps to gather info for future legal action.

Universal Music Group shot back at Drake’s first complaint, stating they would never harm their artists. They said, “The suggestion that UMG would do anything to undermine any of its artists is offensive and untrue. We employ the highest ethical practices in our marketing and promotional campaigns. No amount of contrived and absurd legal arguments in this pre-action submission can mask the fact that fans choose the music they want to hear.”

“Not Like Us” was a massive hit right away, topping the Billboard Hot 100 chart as soon as it came out. It even got Kendrick some Grammy nominations! His latest album GNX continues throwing shade at Drake.

Interestingly enough, neither artist is directly signed with Universal Music Group; instead, Drake works through his OVO label while Lamar uses pgLang. Both use UMG for getting their music out there: Republic helps Drake while Interscope assists Lamar.

Fans sometimes wonder if all these disputes are just part of how stars stay in the spotlight or if there’s more beneath the surface.

Kendrick’s recent concert was like an epic West Coast party with some unforgettable moments—haters included!
