Fang Island, a beloved math-rock group from Providence, is releasing a special box set called Doesn’t Exist II: The Complete Recordings, available on December 13 through Joyful Noise.
Their guitarist Chris Georges has also directed a fresh music video for “Starquake,” which was initially found on a rare flexi-disc back in 2014. This track was penned in 2006 but only recorded nearly ten years later at Brooklyn’s Silent Barn. Jason Bartell, the singer-guitarist, described it as having a “foreboding introduction” that evolves into an energetic loop that spins around a steady core. Each spin adds something catchy until it spirals out into space before finding its new peaceful spot.
Sometimes we just love when bands bring back old tunes with new twists; it feels like rediscovering hidden treasures.
The collection Doesn’t Exist II: The Complete Recordings features their albums Fang Island and Major, plus a special 12″ record with their earlier works like the Day of the Great Leap EP, and more. Included is an exclusive 7″ containing “Starquake” and “Patterns on the Wall” featuring Andrew W.K., all packaged nicely in a handmade wooden box.
