Julia Holter has released a fresh tune called “The Laugh Is in the Eyes.”
This track, born from the creative process of her upcoming 2024 album Something in the Room She Moves, borrows its name from a line in another song on that record, “Spinning.” The music was crafted with Elizabeth Goodfellow on percussion, Devra Hoff playing fretless bass, Chris Speed on clarinet, Tashi Wada handling synthesizers, and co-produced by Kenny Gilmore. Heba Kadry took care of mastering it all. According to Holter, “‘The Laugh Is in the Eyes’ came out of the Something in the Room She Moves writing sessions and it shares that album’s devotion to transformation and bodily senses,” she explained. The song dances between different rhythms—circles meet squares—and like “Spinning,” it promises an unexpected awakening during ‘night,’ moving from stillness to an eager wait for flowers and flutes.
We sometimes feel music can bring unexpected magic into our lives.
I wonder if this new tune will make people feel like they’re spinning through a dreamland full of surprises!
