KeiyaA just shared that a brand new album called Hooke’s Law is dropping on October 31 with XL.
The music video for “Take It” just landed, and it’s full of shadows and moodiness—she worked with Caity Arthur to direct it, and you can totally feel their style in every frame. KeiyaA explained, “An album about the journey of self love, from an angle that isn’t all affirmations and capitalistic self-care. It’s not a linear story with a moral at the end. It’s more of a cycle, a spiral—it’s Hooke’s law.” She’s digging into what it’s like to feel angry, let down, or not fit into what people expect, especially for fat, Black, brown, and dark-skinned women. She also talks about wanting things, making mistakes, and always trying to figure herself out.
After Forever, Ya Girl came out in 2020, KeiyaA kept going, dropping “Camille’s Daughter” in 2022 and even putting on a live show called Milk Thot in New York. Every track on this new album was written, sung, and produced by her, and she played every instrument, which is pretty wild. One of the songs you might know already is “Stupid Prizes,” and there’s a whole bunch more on the tracklist.
Fans think it’s cool when artists do everything themselves.

Sometimes I wonder if musicians eat snacks in the studio or just forget about food when they get really into making music.
