Kendrick Lamar just picked up another Emmy, this time for Outstanding Music Direction thanks to his work on The Apple Music Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show Starring Kendrick Lamar.
This award, which Kendrick shared with Tony Russell, was only one out of seven possible trophies the halftime show was hoping to grab, but it’s the one they actually got; meanwhile, other Creative Emmys found new homes too, like the 2024 Grammys winning for choreography and SNL 50: The Anniversary Special getting recognized for technical stuff. The Creative Emmys happen before the main event and mostly celebrate the people who work backstage, not just the stars everyone sees on TV.
Beyoncé’s Netflix show didn’t win anything this time, even though she already scored her first Emmy last month for the show’s costumes, which is pretty cool if you ask me.
Fans sometimes wish their favorites could win everything, but that’s just how it goes.
By the way, if you want to read more about Kendrick’s halftime show, Clover Hope wrote a review called Kendrick Lamar’s Fierce and Petty 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Show—that title is kind of wild, right?
Sometimes awards shows get confusing, and honestly, I always wonder who even votes for these anyway.
