Laufey just shared that her next album, A Matter of Time, will be out on August 22.
This time around, the music is shaped by Aaron Dessner and Spencer Stewart, and the first track, “Tough Luck,” shows a different side—Laufey calls it “a fiery song about love gone wrong,” saying, “I wanted to reveal an angrier side of myself—a side that this unfortunate relationship brought out in me.” You can listen to it below if you want to feel those vibes.
She also mentioned something interesting: “People expect a pretty facade of girly clothes, fantastical stories, and romantic music. This time, I was interested in seeing how I could draw out the most flawed parts of myself and look at them directly in the mirror.” That’s kind of bold, honestly.
Fans sometimes wonder if artists ever get tired of telling the world so much about themselves.
Her tour schedule is packed, and she’ll be playing with lots of cool orchestras in different cities—like Mexico City on May 27 at The Teatro Metropólitan, São Paolo’s Popload Festival on May 31, and then heading to Norfolk, Virginia for two nights at the Virginia Arts Festival (July 30 and 31) with The Virginia Symphony Orchestra. She’s also stopping in Chautauqua, New York, on August 2 and 3, performing with The Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra, before heading to Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, on August 7 with The Cleveland Orchestra, and then Saratoga Springs on August 9 with The Philadelphia Orchestra.
Sometimes, I think it would be wild to travel to all those places in one summer, but I’d probably lose my socks halfway through.
