For nine months, I was ready to pause my songwriting career to become a new parent.
Imagine my joy when I realized that in the early months of having a baby, you can rock them in a bouncer and strum your guitar all day long. Writing songs while looking into my baby’s eyes felt magical. New parents often think they’ve found something unique—gazing at their child and feeling the vastness of life, fragile yet extraordinary, fitting into the simple routine of family life. This ordinary yet profound experience inspired much of Patterns in Repeat. It’s about family drama, the delicate ties that hold us together, our good intentions for our children, and how those intentions sometimes fade over time. Everyday life is full of hidden complexities.
I think we often underestimate how amazing simple moments can be.
At 34 years old, with 15 years and eight albums behind me, each record marks a chapter in my life. Some even felt like glimpses into the future. Now, after spending my youth trying to figure out what it means to be a woman, I’m standing on top of a hill with a whole new perspective around me.
