Meshell Ndegeocello has a new album coming out on August 2, celebrating James Baldwin’s 100th birthday.
No More Water: The Gospel of James Baldwin is her second album with Blue Note Records, following The Omnichord Real Book, which won a Grammy for Best Alternative Jazz Album this year. You can check out the first two singles from the upcoming album, "Travel" and "Raise the Roof," below.
Working alongside guitarist Chris Bruce, Meshell co-produced this new project. They were joined by vocalist Justin Hicks, sax player Josh Johnson, keyboardist Jebin Bruni, and drummer Abe Rounds. Special guests also included poet Staceyann Chin and critic Hilton Als among others.

Also lending their talents were Kenita R. Miller-Hicks on vocals, keyboardists Jake Sherman and Julius Rodriguez, and trumpeter Paul Thompson.
