MJ Lenderman, the guitarist from Wednesday, is releasing his fourth solo album on September 6 via Anti-.
The new album, Manning Fireworks, follows his 2022 release Boat Songs. The lead track, “She’s Leaving You,” tells the story of a man going through a midlife crisis. Its music video is directed by Whitmer Thomas and Clay Tatum and draws inspiration from “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and Drop Dead Gorgeous.
After Boat Songs, Lenderman put out a live album called And the Wind (Live and Loose!), and also re-released his first solo album. He created this new record during short breaks in his tour schedule at Drop of Sun Studios in Asheville, North Carolina, with help from Alex Farrar.
I think it’s cool how artists can find time to create even when they’re super busy.
Lately, many artists like Waxahatchee and Kevin Abstract have been asking him to contribute to their projects. He recently played on Horse Jumper of Love’s new song “Snow Angel” from their upcoming album Disaster Trick.
You can read more about MJ Lenderman’s previous work; for instance, his album Boat Songs was ranked No. 35 in “The 50 Best Albums of 2022.” Also, there’s an interesting interview titled “Low-Key Indie Rocker MJ Lenderman Wants to Tell a Bigger Story.”
