Mustafa Releases New Song Gaza Is Calling Video

Mustafa has released a new song called “Gaza Is Calling” to support the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund.

The video, directed by Hiam Abbas, features Bella Hadid and MC Abdul, with scenes filmed in Jenin last month. Mustafa, who comes from Sudan but grew up in Canada, actually wrote this song back in 2020. However, he decided to release it now because of the recent violence in Palestine.

Mustafa shared his thoughts about the song:

“Gaza Is Calling” tells the story of my first heartbreak from a friendship. When I was 11, I met a boy from Gaza and we became best friends. We shared an incredible bond while growing up together in Toronto’s housing projects. But our love couldn’t withstand the violence around us—both here and back in Gaza. Eventually, all the bloodshed made it impossible for us to meet without crying. One of his last messages to me spoke about how we’d continue our friendship in another life.

The string sample reflects our shared Arabian nostalgia; my Auto-Tuned Arabic singing represents our cultural balance as boys from grand empires living in a small neighborhood. The Oud is an instrument from both our homelands—Sudan and Palestine.”

Talking more about the video, Mustafa also added some insights.

I think it’s beautiful how music can connect people across different worlds.

Sometimes songs tell stories that words alone can’t express
