Patti Smith has decided to bring back Horses for its 50th birthday with a fresh, shiny version coming out on October 10.
This new release will be available as two vinyl records or two CDs, and it’s packed with cool extras like different versions of the original songs, the audition tape Patti made in 1975 for RCA, and four tracks nobody’s ever heard before: “Distant Fingers,” “The Hunter Gets Captured by the Game,” “We Three,” and “Snowball”—which you can already listen to if you’re curious.
After that, Patti’s got even more going on; her memoir Bread of Angels drops November 4, and she’s set to hit the road in the fall, performing Horses from start to finish all over Europe, the UK, and the US. Not long ago, she also joined up with Philip Glass and Mulatu Astatke as part of Soundwalk Collective to make The Peyote Dance and Mummer Love in 2019. Sometimes, people just never run out of things to do.
Fans really love when artists give us surprises like new songs or special versions.
If you ever wondered, “Land” and “Gloria: In Excelsis Deo” made it onto the list of “The 200 Best Songs of the 1970s” at numbers 93 and 20, so that’s pretty awesome.
