Prince’s Advisors Secure Ruling in Estate Lawsuit

A Delaware judge has made a big decision in favor of Prince’s former business advisors, L. Londell McMillan and Charles Spicer Jr., in their ongoing legal battle with some of Prince’s family members.

McMillan and Spicer are the managers of Prince Legacy LLC, a company they set up with some of Prince’s heirs. But Sharon Nelson, Norrine Nelson, Breanna Nelson, and Allen Nelson tried to kick them out. The judge said that these family members can’t change the rules to remove McMillan and Spicer because it would break their agreement.

The judge wrote that the agreement was clear and that McMillan and Spicer’s understanding of it was correct. She explained that the family members’ attempt to remove them was against the contract terms.

McMillan expressed his happiness about the ruling, saying he has always been loyal to Prince and his legacy. “We are glad about the judge’s decision,” he said. “We didn’t want to go to court but had no choice because we need to protect everything Prince created.”

I think it’s important to stand by your friends when they need you most.

An attorney for Sharon Nelson and others did not respond right away for comments.

When Prince passed away without a will in 2016 from a fentanyl overdose, it led to a long legal fight over his estate. Finally, in August 2022, his assets were divided between two companies: Prince Legacy LLC and Primary Wave.

Some siblings gave half of their shares to McMillan and Spicer for helping them through this process. But later on, Sharon wanted more control over decisions like replacing staff at Paisley Park Museum. When she didn’t get her way, she tried changing rules again with other heirs’ help.

The lawsuit also says Sharon and Breanna tried selling their shares without everyone agreeing first—this could mess up how things are split now between both companies managing what’s left behind by him
