Sharon Van Etten Announces Are We There Anniversary Edition

Sharon Van Etten’s fourth album, Are We There, is celebrating its 10th birthday with a special edition release on May 31 via Jagjaguwar.

She’s also dropping a 7" vinyl featuring a new version of "Every Time the Sun Comes Up" on August 23. You can listen to it now below. Sharon shared that this fresh take on the song emerged while the band was refining their sound for the We’ve Been Going About This All Wrong Tour, adding a Joy Division-inspired twist that fans loved during live shows. They decided to release it for the album’s anniversary, giving it new energy at just the right moment.

Interestingly, this isn’t Sharon’s first time revisiting her past albums. For Epic Ten, she had artists like Fiona Apple and Justin Vernon cover songs from her 2010 album, and last year, she reworked Tramp for its decade milestone.

Since Are We There, Sharon has put out two more albums: Remind Me Tomorrow in 2019 and We’ve Been Going About This All Wrong in 2022. These albums came after big life changes—becoming a mom in 2017 and starting an acting career with roles in Netflix’s The OA and films like Never Rarely Sometimes Always. Last year, she even teamed up with Courtney Barnett on a song and covered an Ink Spots track with Michael Imperioli from The Sopranos.

I think it’s amazing how artists evolve over time.
