Drew Daniel will be back with a Soft Pink Truth project early next year.
Can Such Delightful Times Go On Forever? drops January 30, and the first song from it, “Time Inside the Violet,” already has its own animation, thanks to Matthew Murray Sullivan and visual artist Vicki Bennett. You can catch the video below. This time around, Daniel brought in M.C. Schmidt (his partner and Matmos teammate), Bill Orcutt on guitar, along with several others to help craft the music. Instead of just making dancey tracks, this album looks deeper—trying to capture little moments of happiness even when everything else seems broken.
Fans always wonder how artists turn weird feelings into sounds.
We’ve got a whole list of songs from the new record: “Mere Survival Is Not Enough,” “And By and By a Cloud Takes All Away,” “Phrygian Ganymede,” “Underneath (I),” “L’Esprit de l’Escalier,” “Time Inside the Violet,” “Orchard,” and “Underneath (II).” Can Such Delightful Times Go On Forever? blends unusual ideas with the usual mystery Soft Pink Truth brings. And is it just me, or does “Phrygian Ganymede” sound like something you’d find in a space museum with extra glitter?
Sometimes we all scroll reviews just to see if our favorite albums made the “Best Of” lists.
