Steve Gunn just shared he’s dropping a brand-new instrumental album called Music for Writers, coming out on August 15 from Three Lobed.
This time, he worked on the album in three different places: Brooklyn, Berlin, and Latvia, which is pretty cool because not everyone gets to travel that much for music. The whole record is almost 47 minutes long, with Ernie Indridat handling the mixing and Carl Saff doing the mastering. You can already check out a song from it, “Slow Singers on the Hill.”
After his last solo project, Other You in 2021, Steve didn’t just sit around—he played with David Moore from Bing & Ruth for Let the Moon Be a Planet and a live album, teamed up with John Truscinski for Flam, plus worked with Shahzad Ismaily, Zoh Amba, and Jim White on Beings’ There Is a Garden. He’s definitely been keeping busy.
Fans hope this one is as chill as his other albums.
Here’s what you’ll find on Music for Writers:
01 Sky (Debesis)
02 Safety
03 Park Entrance
04 Mossy Stump
05 Cat
06 Slow Singers on the Hill
07 Sunday
08 Snow / Water
09 Dog
10 Pedvale Sunrise
Honestly, “Cat” and “Dog” as track names made me laugh for a second.
