Sufjan Stevens just dropped a never-before-heard demo of “Death With Dignity” from his Carrie & Lowell era.
This rare track is going to show up on the fancy new Carrie & Lowell (10th Anniversary Edition), which will be out on May 30 through Asthmatic Kitty, and comes with a big 40-page photo book and an essay Sufjan wrote himself. Along with this, there are six more bonus songs, and not long ago, he let fans hear a demo of “Mystery of Love”—a tune made during the same time as Carrie & Lowell but later used for Call Me by Your Name.
Fans sometimes wish all their favorite artists would share hidden songs like this.
Last year, Sufjan even brought back his old album Seven Swans for its 20th birthday, so he’s really been into celebrating his music’s past lately. By the way, the song “Will Anybody Ever Love Me?” landed at No. 32 in a big list called “The 100 Best Songs of the 2020s So Far.”

There’s something kind of cool about finding out there are still surprises hiding in albums we thought we already knew inside and out.
