Sunny Day Real Estate’s latest tease had fans abuzz, and they’ve finally delivered. “Novum Vetus,” a seven-minute sonic journey, marks their first new tune in a decade. Conceived way back in ’97, during a reunion that birthed “How It Feels to Be Something On,” the track has matured like a fine wine.
Original bandmates Jeremy Enigk, Dan Hoerner, and William Goldsmith joined forces with newcomers Greg Suran and Chris Jordan. Together, they breathed life into “Novum Vetus” at the famed London Bridge Studio in Seattle. Oh, and there’s a music video – you’re definitely gonna want to see this.
But wait, there’s more! That very session was also spent reimagining “Diary,” their groundbreaking ’94 debut. “Diary – Live at London Bridge Studio” is set to drop on May 3. It’s a big year for the album, celebrating 30 years with a commemorative tour – “Diary” will be played front to back.
Flashback to 2014 – that’s the last we heard anything new from these guys, with “Lipton Witch.” Then, outta nowhere, they hit the stage again in 2022, their first live gigs since 2010. And they didn’t stop there; they rocked out at a string of shows throughout the year.
Remember “How It Feels to Be Something On”? That gem landed at No. 32 on the “50 Best Albums of 1998” list. Just a tidbit for ya – a little morsel of music history to chew on.
