Today would have been Marc Bolan’s 78th birthday, and there’s something new for T. Rex fans to hear.
At long last, a track called “I’m Dazed” has surfaced, even though it was first recorded way back in April 1975 at Munich’s Musicland Studios (not the Paris sessions from March). Bolan and Reinhold Mack took care of the production, and the song brings together the classic T. Rex crew: Bolan, Gloria Jones, Steve Currie, Davey Lutton, and Dino Dines. You can check out the song below.
These days, it feels like there’s always a new T. Rex surprise—whether it’s a rare song, a shiny box set, or a compilation popping up out of nowhere. Today, English Heritage also put up a blue plaque at Bolan’s old London house to remember him.
Fans sometimes wish these kinds of tributes happened more often for other artists.
Back in 2020, Ringo Starr called Bolan “a poet” during T. Rex’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction. The ceremony rolled out a video with Billy Idol and Joan Jett sharing their thoughts, plus old clips of Tony Visconti, Elton John, John Lydon, and David Bowie saying nice things about the band.
If you want to go deeper, there’s a Sunday Review of The Slider from 1972, and Electric Warrior even made it to No. 20 on a list of the best albums from the 1970s.
