Taylor Swift finally has her master recordings back, and she wrote a note on her website to tell everyone, saying, “All of the music I’ve ever made… now belongs… to me.”
A few years ago, Scooter Braun’s company bought Big Machine Label Group, which meant he got control over Taylor’s first six albums and she wasn’t happy at all. She called him out, saying, “Scooter has stripped me of my life’s work, that I wasn’t given an opportunity to buy. Essentially, my musical legacy is about to lie in the hands of someone who tried to dismantle it.” Even though this whole thing started a lot of drama, Braun later said, “I am happy for her,” after she managed to get her music back.
After leaving Big Machine in 2018 and signing with Universal, Taylor promised she’d make new versions of her old albums so she could own them herself. She already put out Fearless, Red, Speak Now, and 1989 again, and she’s finished her first album’s re-recording, but hasn’t picked a date to share it. Reputation isn’t done yet either, even though people have been waiting for it since she teased “Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor’s Version).”
Fans really love seeing Taylor win after all this time.
Before she could drop any Taylor’s Version albums, Braun actually sold her original masters to Shamrock Capital, a company in LA. Shamrock said, “Taylor Swift is a transcendent artist with a timeless catalog. We made this investment because we believe in the immense value and opportunity that comes with her work.”
Taylor thanked everyone at Shamrock Capital, saying they were the first to offer her this chance and, “The way they’ve handled every interaction we’ve had has been honest, fair, and respectful.”
Hi.
I’m trying to put my feelings into words, but right now my brain is just showing me pictures of all the times I hoped this would happen. I remember wishing and almost reaching it so many times, only for it to slip away. After 20 years of chasing this dream, I nearly gave up. But now, that’s over. I keep crying happy tears ever since I found out I actually get to say these words.
