A woman named Chanaaz Mangroe is suing The-Dream, accusing him of assaulting her both sexually and physically.
Chanaaz Mangroe, also known as Channii Monroe, filed the lawsuit in a California federal court. She claims she met The-Dream in 2014 when she was 23 and had just moved to the U.S. from the Netherlands to pursue a music career. According to her, he pretended to offer her a recording contract but instead trapped her in an abusive relationship filled with violence and manipulation.
The lawsuit describes how The-Dream used his connections with big names like Beyoncé, Rihanna, and Jay-Z to control Mangroe. For someone new in the industry, becoming famous was an alluring dream that made her willing to do anything for success.
People often get blinded by fame without realizing its dark side.
Mangroe alleges that during their first night recording together in Los Angeles in February 2015, The-Dream pressured her into drinking heavily and smoking marijuana. He then insisted on having sex with her, claiming it was necessary for creating hit songs. She says he took advantage of her repeatedly throughout the night under this pretense.
Returning confused but hopeful for success, Mangroe tried to stay optimistic despite feeling used. Whenever they were at the studio together afterward, she claims he expected sex on demand.
After these sessions ended, Mangroe went back home but soon moved again—this time to Atlanta where The-Dream lived. In Atlanta, things got worse as he became more controlling; demanding daily check-ins and making sure she relied solely on him for everything she needed.
