Thom Yorke Issues Statement on Israel & Gaza

Hamas’s actions on October 7th were shocking, and it seems clear they hide behind the pain of their own people for their own goals.

But there’s something else that matters just as much, maybe even more.

Online, people keep pushing celebrities and artists to post statements, but honestly, this just makes everyone more stressed and scared, and it turns a huge, complicated problem into something that looks really simple when it isn’t.

When people keep splitting into sides and shouting at each other, it only makes things worse—it makes people feel alone and hopeless, which is exactly what extremists want so they can keep their power.

We sometimes forget that not everyone in a group is the same as the loudest, angriest people claiming to speak for them, and that mistake lets the real troublemakers blend in with everyone else.

Fans sometimes wish everyone would just stop arguing online and actually talk to each other for real.

If we ever want peace, we have to remember what connects us, not just what splits us apart, and maybe then the ones who cause all the trouble will finally be left alone in the dark where they belong.

It makes sense to want to help when you see terrible things happening on your phone every day, but just reposting stuff or writing a quick message doesn’t really help and can even make things worse, especially if it turns into blaming whole groups of people.

It’s like yelling into a cave where nobody can see your face or hear your real voice, and it’s easy to fall into traps or believe things that aren’t true.

Honestly, the internet is full of fake stuff and people trying to mess with your mind, so it’s hard to know what’s real sometimes.

So what should we do instead? I don’t really know, but it feels like things are getting scarier and more confusing everywhere, and maybe we need to step back before it gets even worse.

I’m pretty sure some people will be mad about what I’m saying here, and they’ll probably look for reasons to keep fighting, no matter what side they’re on.

I’m just hoping, like so many others, that the pain, loneliness, and loss will end soon, and that everyone can find a way to be kind and understand each other again… maybe someday this darkness will finally be over.
