U2 Issues Statements on Israel & Gaza

If you turn away from the two-state idea, what exactly are you hoping for instead?

Does the plan just mean endless fighting, more walls, more blockades, and people living with unfair rules forever? If Israel chooses this path and keeps another group of people stuck without rights, doesn’t that actually go against the very reason Israel was created after the Holocaust? People everywhere will start to wonder if maybe the only fair answer is for everyone—Jews and Palestinians—to share the land and have the same laws and rights.

In Ireland, we learned that real peace never comes from one side trying to control the other. Peace starts when both sides sit down, see each other as humans, and treat each other with respect—even if they were scared or angry before. Justice and recognition come first, or there’s no hope for peace at all. If we keep repeating old mistakes, the future just disappears.

Fans sometimes just wish leaders would listen to regular people for once.

It’s not easy to choose peace. But honestly, it’s never too early or too late to try.

Adam Clayton:

What’s happening in Gaza now, with bombings and blocked aid, feels like revenge on people who didn’t even do the attack on October 7. If Israel tries to take over Gaza, it will ruin any chance for peace forever. Forget right and wrong for a second—if Israel’s army is so advanced and talks about how accurate it is, why are they dropping bombs everywhere and destroying homes and shelters? Why are regular people being hit from the sky?

In war, you can choose to protect civilians.

Larry Mullen Jr.:

Seeing the video of the October 7 massacre, especially the attack on music fans at Nova Festival, was just awful. Hamas didn’t help anyone; they only made things worse for everyone. What did they think would happen after killing and kidnapping people?

Israel’s answer was what everyone expected.

People knew there would be calls to wipe out Hamas, and a ground war, and bombs falling. But almost all the homes and hospitals in Gaza being destroyed, with most of the dead being women and kids? No one expected that. No one thought food would be used as a weapon and children would be left to starve.

It’s hard to see how anyone could think starving kids is okay, no matter what happened before. “To state the obvious, starving innocent civilians as a weapon of war is inhumane and criminal.”

Why aren’t more people in Israel, or around the world, speaking up? Where’s the outrage from Jewish communities everywhere? There’s barely a whisper, just a few people saying famine is happening. Mostly, there’s silence.

The power to stop this is with Israel.

I totally believe Israel should exist, but Palestinians deserve their own country too.

Staying silent doesn’t help anyone.
