Vampire Weekend Covers Billy Joel’s Scenes From an Italian Restaurant Video

Over the weekend, Vampire Weekend rocked Madison Square Garden with two energetic concerts to promote their album Only God Was Above Us.

Their first performance on October 5 was unique, featuring Mark Ronson and a Billy Joel tribute band known as Turnstiles. Not wanting to be overshadowed by these acts, Vampire Weekend surprised everyone by playing “Scenes From an Italian Restaurant” while a couple had dinner onstage. The man in this dining duo was none other than Despot, who used to host Time Crisis. “Watch the performance below.”

Billy Joel is pretty legendary at Madison Square Garden, having held a concert residency there from 2014 until 2024. His last show at this iconic venue happened on July 25, 2024—marking his 150th time performing there since he first did so back in December of 1978.

I think it’s really cool when bands cover songs from artists they admire.

Joel’s album The Stranger, released in 1977 and including “Scenes From an Italian Restaurant,” still gets people talking even today.
