Water From Your Eyes New EP: Chumbawamba Cover Released

Water From Your Eyes will release a new EP with four cover songs this Friday, July 12, through Matador.

Titled MP3 Player 1, the EP features Rachel Brown and Nate Amos covering tracks by Adele, Al Green, Third Eye Blind, and Chumbawamba. Today they released their version of Chumbawamba’s “The Good Ship Lifestyle,” which you can listen to below.

Brown and Amos worked on MP3 Player 1 while finishing their 2023 album Everyone’s Crushed. This new EP follows their 2021 covers album Somebody Else’s Songs. In press materials, they explained:

Nate picked “Good Ship Lifestyle” while Rachel selected the other three. We love Chumbawamba, but it was a toss-up between doing Adele in the style of The Cure or Al Green for the most unexpected choice. We think it’s amusing and good, but listeners will have to judge for themselves.

I think it’s cool when bands try something different like this.

You can catch Water From Your Eyes at this year’s Pitchfork Music Festival on Saturday, July 20. Tickets are still available if you want to see them live. Their current lineup includes guitarist Al Nardo and drummer Bailey Wollowitz.
