Yo La Tengo & Jad Fair Announce Strange but True Reissue

Yo La Tengo and Jad Fair have some cool news: their old album Strange but True is finally coming back after being super hard to find for ages.

This record, which first came out in 1998, is getting a big return—now you can get it on vinyl, CD, or even just listen online, which wasn’t possible before, and all these versions drop December 12 from Joyful Noise and Bar/None. The track names are actually headlines from the Weekly World News, and it was David Fair, Jad’s brother, who collected those wild titles.

Jad Fair once said, “When I started as a musician, I just wanted to sound like myself. You would think that would be the easiest thing to do, but, for most people, it’s difficult.” That’s kind of deep, right?

Fans sometimes wish all rare albums would come back like this.

Yo La Tengo also put out This Stupid World in 2023 and dropped an EP called Old Joy not long after, so they’ve been busy. Oh, and if you want to hear something weird, check out “Texas Man Abducted By Aliens for Outer Space Joyride”—the title alone is a trip.

Sometimes, people say they can hear the heart beating in a song, but that’s probably just the bass turned up too high.
