Trevor Powers, known for Youth Lagoon, has dropped a fresh track called “My Beautiful Girl.”
In a chat about how the song came to be, Powers shared his experience: “There’s a place not far from where I live in Idaho called Idaho City. It’s almost deserted. I love going there to swim in the river and have some alone time. On my last trip, I wandered into an old cemetery named ‘Boothill’ because many miners died with their boots on there. Among the dry weeds and shadows, I found a gravestone that simply read ‘My Beautiful Girl.’ No dates or names. Just pure love. It made me wonder about her story and inspired me to write down what came to mind.”
This new single is part of three songs released this year by Youth Lagoon, following “Football” and “Lucy Takes a Picture,” all crafted alongside Rodaidh McDonald. After taking an eight-year break, Youth Lagoon’s album Heaven Is a Junkyard was released in 2023.
