Zac Farro is about to drop his very first solo album called Operator, which will arrive on July 18 through Congrats.
He’s kicking things off with a song named “My My,” and, honestly, it’s got a country-folk vibe that’s pretty different from the pop-rock sound people usually expect from Paramore or even Halfnoise. Farro shared, “‘My My’ is a personal song about witnessing a loved one try to let go of someone they care for deeply. That kind of silent pain. This song holds a lot of weight and captures those moments of reflection and processing that run throughout the album.” The song feels like it’s meant for quiet car rides or rainy afternoons.
After spending years making music as Halfnoise, Farro felt it was time to put out an album under his own name, especially since these new tracks talk about things like family struggles, stress, and when talking to people just doesn’t work out. Every single song on Operator was written by him, and he even got some help from Josh Gilligan and Chancey Pierce, who are both part of the Nashville music scene.
Fans think it’s cool when musicians try something new.
It’s wild to remember that Farro started Halfnoise right after he left Paramore back in 2010, and since then, he’s released five albums with that project, including City Talk in 2023. Even though he came back to Paramore in 2016 and they dropped This Is Why last year, Halfnoise didn’t just disappear—they’re still making music.
Sometimes, people just need a new start, even if it means changing your name on the album cover.
